Newcastle United learn their Champions League opponents for league phase this evening

· 28 August 2025, 10:30

**Newcastle United will find out who they will face in the newly implemented league phase of the Champions League.**

Last year, the competition underwent a huge shakeup, so this will be Newcastle's first foray into the competition in its new guise.

The draw for the leagues will take place in Monaco today at 5pm, with the Magpies having been placed in Pot 4 of 4 as the club with the lowest coefficient in the competition.

This could mean a tricky draw for Eddie Howe's men, but they will no doubt rise to the challenge.

**It's a new experience for Newcastle United this time**

--------------------------------------------------------

**How does the draw work?**

• The 36 clubs are split into four pots, ranked by UEFA coefficient.

• Each team will be drawn and then matched with 8 opponents by UEFA’s software.

• You’ll face two teams from each pot – one at home, one away.

• No clashes against sides from your own country, and you can’t play more than two teams from the same nation (so no four-game Italian tour).

**What next?**

• Each team ends up with 8 fixtures in total.

• UEFA will confirm all dates and kick-off times by Saturday, 30 August.

The draw will be shown live on YouTube for free

People seemed to be big fans of the new format last season, and at least the Magpies are guaranteed eight games this time around, two more than our last appearance.

TNT Sports and UEFA will be showing the draw live on YouTube for free as well as on the TNT Sports channel, so you can tune in to see where you'll be jetting off to later this season.

Fingers crossed the draw is kinder this time around.
