As part of Leicester City’s rampant fire sale, many goalkeepers have left the club. The likes of Danny Ward, Daniel Iversen, and most notably Mads Hermansen have all jumped ship following a dismal 24/25 campaign. As a result, Jakub Stolarczyk has taken the step up to become the club’s number one, while the acquisition of Asmir Begovic has added experience and knowledge to Marti Cifuentes. Therefore, with the position being one of City’s stronger points, it comes as a surprise that a new shot stopper is a priority.

Jonas Omlin: Leicester City Advance
As reported by Florian Plettenberg, the Foxes have submitted a loan bid for Jonas Omlin. The goalkeeper arrived in Germany back in 2023 and has since played 36 times for Borussia Mönchengladbach. He’s a cultured player, having featured in the top divisions of France, Switzerland, and Germany. With promotion back to the Premier League being Leicester City’s aim, could he also reach the pinnacle of English football?

In addition to this, the German side would like a buy option or obligation included within the deal. Although he featured 10 times at the back end of last season, Omlin now looks to move on, after being their second-choice keeper for two years.
One issue that could delay the deal is Mönchengladbach’s need to find a replacement. Once that is out of the equation, then Omlin can depart and make his move to the King Power.
How Does This Affect Leicester City?
As mentioned previously, signing a new goalkeeper shouldn’t be a priority. This is due to Jakub Stolarczyk’s performances, but also because the club haven’t signed an outfield player and the deadline is days away.
In Stolarczyk’s three appearances this season, he has already made some stunning saves versus both Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton. Despite making a mistake away at Preston, the recovery has been positive. The Pole is much more assertive in his box and has been a pivotal part in City taking six points from nine in the league. Furthermore, he also came from the academy, which shouldn’t be overlooked, whilst also keeping more clean sheets than Hermansen last season.

On a more positive note, adding Omlin would create competition, which could potentially lead to better performances. Furthermore, he will also be able to help the younger keepers improve due to his experiences across Europe. Academy goalkeepers Stevie Bausor and Jake Donohue have been in and around the first team throughout pre-season, which further highlights the importance of this aspect. The Swiss international has played in European competitions, featured for the national team and hit double figures for clean sheets, which is also encouraging.
