Alexis Mac Allister’s girlfriend issued an update on her pregnancy after the midfielder missed Liverpool's game at Newcastle United. Mac Allister has been a crucial player in Liverpool’s victories in the Carabao Cup in 2024 and the Premier League in 2025.
The Argentinian missed much of Liverpool’s pre-season preparations this summer after picking up an injury at the back end of the last campaign. The World Cup winner did start Liverpool’s first league game against Bournemouth but was absent again on Monday when the Reds faced Newcastle United.
It was speculated online that he had missed the game due to his partner Ailen Cova giving birth but this was not the case. Mac Allister actually had a minor fitness issue, with Arne Slot telling reporters: “He had to leave the training pitch two days ago. And that would not even be the biggest problem if he had a proper pre-season, but he missed out for so many weeks.
"But he missed out for so many weeks and there's a reason why he goes inside because he probably feels something. You need to be so, so fit.
"Then it is a risk if you bring a player who didn't have a proper pre-season, in this environment, with such a long season to go, it was too much of a risk for me. But I am hoping, I am hoping things improve in the next one or two days so he is available for Sunday."
Ailen regularly shares updates on her personal life to her 139,000 followers on Instagram and confirmed last night she had not given birth.
In a touching message, she wished her sister Brina a happy birthday and posted a series of black and white pictures of them together, including one of her sister kissing her baby bump.
In the caption of the post translated from Spanish. Ailen said: “Have a very happy birthday. I love you.” In the comment section, Brina said: “I love you with all my heart.”
Mac Allister watched the Newcastle game from home, taking to Instagram himself to send a message to his team-mates during the first-half.
He wrote: "Come on the boys.”
Ailen announced her pregnancy back in March with a video on her profile page. Ailen was in floods of tears after Mac Allister showed her the positive pregnancy scan before giving him a hug.
There was then footage of her baby scan followed by a compilation of the pair giving the news to their friends and family members around the world.
This included Mac Allister’s brother Kevin, a professional footballer who played against Liverpool last season for Belgian side Union SG. The final shot of the video showed Ailen holding up a sign on her phone which said: “It’s a girl.”
Fellow Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch and his girlfriend Cindy Peroti announced the birth of their first child earlier this month. In a joint Instagram post, they shared a picture of themselves holding hands with their newborn and said: “Our little miracle has arrived.”
