Illan Meslier is one of several players expected to leave Leeds before the 1 September transfer deadline.
Despite the initial euphoria from Leeds’ opening day victory against Everton, optimism levels have been drained out of Elland Road over the past week.
A heavy defeat to Arsenal, a shock Carabao Cup exit against Sheffield Wednesday and a lack of transfer activity have sparked concern at Leeds.
In regard to the latter, more activity is expected in the final few days of the window, though their ability to conclude business will depend on outgoings, with a truly bizarre twist emerging in the future of Meslier.

Rangers want to sign Illan Meslier
Meslier was a disaster for Leeds last season, though that seemingly hasn’t stopped clubs registering an interest in the Frenchman this summer.

However, in truly odd circumstances, Rangers have entered the race to sign Meslier, according to Santi Aouna via X.
Lorient are said to have made an offer, though Rangers, and in particular the 49ers, are in negotiations for the Leeds keeper.
Of course, the Light Blues share an ownership with Leeds, and they will surely have been aware of the fact that Meslier nearly cost the Whites promotion last season.
To then want to take him to Ibrox is very, very strange, and will almost certainly raise the debate over Multi-Club ownership once again.

Leeds must do whatever it takes to offload Illan Meslier
Bizarre or not, any situation that involves Meslier departing Elland Road is a green flag.
While concerns are already starting to emerge over Lucas Perri’s ability, Meslier simply has no future at Leeds, as showcased by the fact he hasn’t even been named in matchday squads in the Premier League.
Leeds are not going to get a high fee for Meslier, but getting his wages off the books and removing the stain of his tenure is going to be crucial.
As for Rangers, one can only spare some thoughts for the Light Blues faithful should the deal materialise.
