Exclusive: What Royal Antwerp have told Man Utd about Senne Lammens deal, Ineos 'reluctant'

Manchester United’s loss to Grimsby Town on Wednesday night only emphasised the need Ruben Amorim has for a new goalkeeper.

Amongst the recent lows at Manchester United, Wednesday was right up there as the very worst it has been for the club.

Ruben Amorim’s post game reaction told the full story, he was completely lost for words at how his team managed to be shown up by such inferior opposition.

While the head coach is taking a lot of the flak, really the players shouldn’t need a system or tactics to look competent and complete a string of passes together against fourth tier opponents.

Andre Onana was the cause of the defeat as he had an absolute howler on his return to action after not playing in the opening two games of the season.

This has only further sparked a desire to sign a new goalkeeper.

Royal Antwerp expecting higher fee from Manchester United

Neither Onana or Altay Bayindir have covered themselves in glory this season, with the pair directly responsible to a degree for all of the goals conceded by United this campaign.

As a result, United have been trying to sign Senne Lammens, with a deal on the likely side.

Now, after the goalkeeping failures on Wednesday, United in Focus understands that United remain confident of securing the Belgian.

Speaking with Graeme Bailey, United in Focus can confirm that Galatasaray have held talks with Lammens and Royal Antwerp. The Turkish side have made it clear they see him as best options in the event Ederson deal is not completed.

That is still likely scenario, whilst they are using Lammens to bluff Man City – they have made it clear to the player they are serious about him too.

Antwerp are taking it serious and have informed United that they are willing to do the €25m (£21m).

Lammens’ personal terms are done with United – never an issue – but United have been reluctant on the overall package but talks continue.

As it stands United have not turned their attention elsewhere and still hold a belief they get it done.

Then it is going to be about the situation of Onana and Bayindir – they both could stay even with Lammens, but as we said before Onana is not happy.

Senne Lammens will arrive to Manchester United with immense pressure

Due to the failures of United’s first and second choice this season, it looks increasingly likely that Lammens will step into the first-team starting line-up straight away.

Here there will be immense pressure, with the Belgian likely to be painted by many as the saviour to United’s goalkeeping disasters this season.

Lammens has the ability to be this for United, but at the age of 23 and without exposure to elite competition, it will be a big step up for the Antwerp goalkeeper, so patience will be needed.

However, no matter if he is perfect straight away or not, Lammens should be able to do the basics which Onana and Bayindir cannot.
