Noah Ofakor has supported Leeds United teammate Dominic Calvert-Lewin after he issued a response to his miss in the penalty shootout defeat against Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday.
Daniel Farke's side crashed out of the Carabao Cup after losing on penalties to the Championship side, following a 1-1 draw in the 90 minutes plus stoppage time. Karl Darlow's own goal had put Wednesday ahead in the 63rd minute, but Leeds responded and levelled through Jayden Bogle's late strike.
Calvert-Lewin, who was introduced as a second-half substitute for his Leeds debut, squandered a couple of gilt-edged opportunities to win the tie. He should have scored the winner late on but somehow shot wide with the goal gaping and was then twice denied by Wednesday's Ethan Horvath.
To sum up a miserable night for him and Leeds at Hillsborough, Calvert-Lewin fired his penalty over the crossbar in the resulting shootout. The Whites were beaten 3-0 on penalties.
In an Instagram post following the game, Calvert-Lewin, who has 494,000 followers, said: "Very proud to make my debut for this great club tonight, but also disappointed with how it went. I came here to give everything and that's what I will continue to do. Can't wait to see you all at Elland Road."
Showing his support to his new teammate, Okafor, an £18 million arrival from AC Milan last week, said: "My bro."
Calvert-Lewin's post gained more than 47,000 likes and received a number of other positive messages of support despite a frustrating night at the office for the former Everton forward.
Meanwhile, Leeds head coach Farke apologised to the fans after his side exited the Carabao Cup at the first time of asking for the second straight season. "We have to take all of the criticism and we are self-critical because out of all the chances we should put four or five goals to bed," the German stated.
"It's always a bit annoying and you feel a bit embarrassed as a Premier League side, but we have been involved in so many games on this level, especially in the cup – this is why there are so many surprises and shock results.
"Even the team in the lower league can win such a game. Today was one of those days and congratulations to Sheffield Wednesday."
When asked for his message to the Leeds fans, Farke said: "You can feel for them. We're sorry anyhow. We feel a bit embarrassed that we don't go through in such a game. We can just say 'sorry' because they made the trip and wanted to celebrate."
