Newcastle’s bid to sign Wolves’ Jorgen Strand Larsen has taken another twist today.

The Athletic’s [David Ornstein](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6578990/2025/08/28/strand-larsen-newcastle-transfer-wolves/) has issued an update on the potential move, offering some good and bad news for Newcastle United.

The good news is that Strand Larsen has now ‘politely informed’ Wolves of his wish to join Newcastle, although it seems that move is far from simple from a Wolves perspective.

Ornstein reveals that Wolves chairman Jeff Shi has told Strand Larsen that a move is very unlikely over the final days of the summer window, as the Midlands club would need TWO strikers before Monday’s 7pm deadline to sanction his sale.

Wolves are currently looking for a striker but view the next addition as someone to compete with the Norwegian, with their forward line weakened by recent exits for Matheus Cunha and Fabio Silva’s seemingly imminent move for Borussia Dortmund.

As things stand, Wolves insist that all Newcastle bids will be rejected, with the club already turning down offers of £50m and £55m earlier this week.

An improved bid of £60m has been described as imminent by Sky Sports, but it seems that may still not be enough to get a deal done, unless Wolves somehow manage to bring in two new strikers over the final five days of the summer window.
