Cork soccer player Jaze Kabia helped Grimsby Town defeat Manchester United in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.

Grimsby who play in League Two defeated the Red Devils following a dramatic cup tie at Blundell Park last night.

The Mariners enjoyed a two goal lead at the interval only for their Premier League opponents to net twice in the second half to force a penalty shoot-out.

Extra-time isn’t played in the Carabao Cup until the semi-final stages.

Jaze Kabia previously played with College Corinthians, Douglas Hall, Cobh Ramblers and Cork City FC in Cork before moving to the UK to pursue his soccer dreams.

The pacey striker only joined Grimsby this summer having enjoyed a very successful season with Truro City in the National League South last year.

Jaze has enjoyed a great start to his career with Grimsby, having netted three goals in his first five games.

Kabia whose father Jason was also a professional soccer player in both Ireland and the UK, emerged as one of the heroes for Grimsby in the marathon penalty shootout.

The 25-year-old striker displayed great composure to score twice in the penalty shoot which the home side won on a 12-11 scoreline to secure their place in club folklore.

Grimsby have been rewarded for their heroics with an away game in the next round against Sheffield Wednesday who themselves pulled off a cup shock this week after they defeated Leeds.
