"In the next hours..." - Fabrizio Romano shares update on Amorim's future at Man Utd after…

Ruben Amorim suffered a new low in his Manchester United career on Wednesday evening, after crashing out of the League Cup to League Two side Grimsby Town away from home - and Fabrizio Romano believes that the Portuguese gaffer's 'strong words' in his post-match interview will have a huge impact on the Red Devils in the coming days.

United went 2-0 down inside half an hour to the Mariners, and although a late salvage job was undertaken by Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire to force penalties in Cleethorpes, a long penalty shoot-out saw Mbeumo turn from hero to villain after his effort from 12 yards hit the crossbar.

Amorim wasn't pleased by the result, stating that 'something must change' at Old Trafford, before cryptically adding that his players 'spoke really loudly' with their performance. And that has seen GIVEMESPORT transfer correspondent Romano add that his words will have an impact on the club in the coming hours and days.

He said on Wednesday night, via his YouTube channel:

"A shocking performance by Manchester United. The 2-2, and then on penalties to Grimsby Town - a fourth division team - beating United and eliminating United from the cup.

"It's really unbelievable and really shocking for United. So also, right after the game whilst I am recording this video, Ruben Amorim is speaking saying he is really sorry for the fans.

"He says that the best team on the pitch, the only team on the pitch, won the game. Strong words by Ruben Amorim, for sure - this is going to have an impact on Manchester United and this is going to be an important topic for sure in the next hours and days."

United have now failed to win a competitive game this season, after losing to Arsenal on the opening weekend of the Premier League campaign before falling to a draw against Fulham over the weekend, leaving them on just one point from two Premier League games.

Amorim has only won seven Premier League games in his time at United, with just four of those coming against sides that weren't relegated last season - and with the loss to Grimsby, movements surrounding his future will be watched closely as the Red Devils enter what appears to be another shambolic season under the former Sporting boss.

A loss to newly-promoted Burnley over the upcoming weekend would raise huge questions over his Old Trafford future.
