Happy birthday to Bismack Biyombo

The new season is just around the corner, but there is still time to celebrate and thank Bismack Biyombo as he celebrates his thirty-third birthday today.

Biyombo came in on February 9th on a 10-day contract, followed by a second 10-day contract on on February 21st. On March 3rd, he signed on for the rest of the year to help fill the hole in the big man position left after Zach Collins was traded, Victor Wembanyama was sidelined with deep-vein thrombosis, and Charles Bassey whose injuries allowed only 36 games, most in the earlier part of the season.

Biyombo was originally drafted 7th overall in 2011 by the Sacramento Kings. His rights were traded on draft night to the Charlotte Hornets, where he played for four seasons. One season in Toronto, two in Orlando, and he returned to Charlotte for another three seasons.

He spent some time in Phoenix, Memphis, and Oklahoma City before the Spurs picked him up.

He wasn’t;t here long, but he was exactly what the Spurs needed. A veteran presence with a great attitude, willing to fight what looked like a losing battle into the lottery.

No word on where the Congolese big man will land next season, but no doubt he will be wished well by those in the Silver & Black who benefitted from his presence.
