It seems that Liverpool may yet be able to sign Alexander Isak this summer.
Newcastle United have been desperately searching for a striker to replace the Swede, and they now have gotten a bit of luck they have sorely missed this summer transfer window.
The Swedish striker has effectively gone on strike, refusing to train with the first team and maintaining his stance that he will never play for Newcastle again, even if forced to remain beyond the deadline.
His position has remained unchanged despite Newcastle directors Jamie Reuben and Jacobo Solis visiting his home earlier this week in a last-ditch attempt to convince him to return.
Isak is expected to make a return to the pitch for Sweden in the upcoming international break, having been called up to the squad.
He will know by then whether he will be a Liverpool player or is remaining at Newcastle until at least the January window.
Newcastle’s attention has turned to Wolves striker Wolves’ Jorgen Strand Larsen in an effort to sign a striker.
The Magpies have had multiple bids dismissed, with their most recent offer consisting of £35 million plus £5 million in add-ons being turned down.
Should Strand Larsen’s signature materialize, or should Newcastle finally clinch Wissa, the door would swing open for Liverpool to launch a fresh bid for Isak – potentially setting a British transfer record.
Now the Athletic has reported that Wolves’ Jorgen Strand Larsen has now asked his club to allow him the move to St James’ Park:
“Newcastle United target Jorgen Strand Larsen has informed Wolverhampton Wanderers that he wants to leave,” David Ornstein wrote.
“The St James’ Park club have already had two offers, worth £50million and £55m turned down by Wolves.”
“There has been no third offer as things stand and Wolves’ current stance is that any bid will be rejected.”
While the Molineaux club are still maintaining their hard stance, the fact that Strand Larsen has asked to leave is a potential big domino swing.
Meanwhile, Wolves boss Vitor Pereira has claimed that every player has their price when discussing the situation earlier this week:
“I don’t know, I’m not the owner. Until now, Jorgen is our player, we’ll see what happens,” replied Pereira when quizzed on the future of the Norway international.
“Football is football and every player has a price, even (Lionel) Messi or Cristiano (Ronaldo). We’ll see what happens.”
“I know him very well and he will never, never force a move. There are players I have known in this situation and they just ask me not to play but Jorgen Strand Larsen wants to play every time.”
“Football is football and we must be ready for everything.”
