'Ridiculous': Simon Jordan can't get his head around what Jamie Reuben did at Newcastle

Pundit Simon Jordan believes Jamie Reuben’s visit to Alexander Isak’s house to try and convince him to stay at Newcastle United was “absurd”.

Magpies co-owner Reuben reportedly visited Isak at his house for talks over his Newcastle future, although those discussions do not appear to have worked.

Isak still wants to leave Newcastle United and join Liverpool during what remains of the summer transfer window and it remains to be seen if the club relent on their stance that he’s not for sale under these conditions.

Liverpool have not yet indicated they are prepared to pay Isak’s reported £150million asking price, while Newcastle are yet to source any adequate replacements.

It’s an ugly saga that continues to drag on. Newcastle owners PIF have clearly tried to get the wantaway Sweden star back on side but to no avail yet.

Isak to Liverpool could drag on until Deadline Day and Jordan has slammed Reuben.

Simon Jordan delivers verdict on Jamie Reuben ‘meeting Alexander Isak’

The former Crystal Palace owner was speaking on talkSPORT on Wednesday.

Reacting to the suggestions that Reuben went to visit Isak at home before Newcastle played Liverpool on Monday night, Jordan was rather scathing.

“It’s ridiculous for the owners to go and see the player at his house,” he said.

“It’s a ridiculous balance of power trade-off.

“You don’t go to someone’s house and tell them what you think of them, do you? You get them to come to your office otherwise you get thrown out of their house.

“The balance of power in that conversation is absurd.”

He then suggested that Liverpool would hold the power if Newcastle made a U-turn over Isak’s future now, with so little time left in the window.

He added: “The fact of the matter is that Liverpool may well come back to the table and they may well give Newcastle an exit. Newcastle have boxed themselves into a corner by saying they won’t accept anything other than what they want.

“They’ve turned down – so we believe – a certain amount of money. If Liverpool come back and offer a certain amount of money, maybe that will revive the deal.

“If Newcastle are this week going to be knocking back on Liverpool’s deal [to try and sell], then if I was Liverpool – I’d offer £100million!”

Jamie Reuben backs PIF plan to keep Alexander Isak

Earlier this summer, The Daily Telegraph claimed that PIF have blocked Isak’s move to Liverpool.

It was suggested that Reuben, who is part of the ownership at St James’ Park, backed that decision.

So far, that has proven to be the case. Clearly, things could change if and when Liverpool return with a fresh offer.

Geordie Boot Boys understands that Liverpool will make a second bid for Isak but time is running out.

The transfer window shuts at 7pm BST on Monday 1 September, 2025.
