Squad picture becomes clearer after Albion's all-change line-up at Oxford

Igor Julio was named in the all-changed starting XI in the Carabao Cup.

Facundo Buonanotte, Jeremy Sarmiento and Abdallah Sima were among players NOT involved.

Igor has seemed set to move on, with Real Sociedad a possible destination at one stage earlier in the summer, but travelled with the squad to Everton on Sunday.

He started the second-round tie last night.

Albion have lost left-sided centre-back Adam Webster to injury during pre-season.

Speaking ahead of the cup tie, Seagulls boss Fabian Hurzeler said: “We still have a very big squad, so we have to reduce the squad.

“I think it’s fair to say that at the moment the situation is quite a complicated situation.

“It’s not easy to handle that many players in certain moments, but the transfer window closes soon, so I’m sure then we have clarity.

“So far we have managed it together. We have to speak to the players, to give them clarity, how we see the future and then I’m sure we’ll find solutions for that

“I think everyone, me included, is looking forward to clarity for your squad, for your planning.”

Harry Howell’s part in Hurzeler’s thoughts was underlined by a first starting role, plating the full 90 minutes and playing a big part in two goals.

Danny Welbeck, Kaoru Mitoma, Lewis Dunk, Bart Verbruggen and Jan Paul van Hecke were among players rested ahead of the visit of Manchester City to the Amex on Sunday while Georginio Rutter was not risked after a recent minor injury.

The transfer window closes on Monday evening.
