MILLWALL reached the EFL Cup for just the third time in nine years after their 2-1 win against Coventry City at The Den on Tuesday evening.
Since their return to the Championship, they have been knocked out by four lower-tier sides: Leyton Orient, Reading, Cambridge United and Oxford United.
It felt like some defeats in the competition in those years were often met with a shrug of the shoulders. The Lions aren’t going to win the competition, after all, and it doesn’t have the same appeal as an FA Cup run from January.
There were some abject performances: the 4-0 defeat at home to League One Reading; a 1-0 loss at Cambridge United, also of League One.
