Grimsby Town's Tyrell Warren was on the scoresheet against his former club Manchester United and received a classy reaction from his good friend Marcus Rashford.

Ruben Amorim's team endured a night to forget against the League Two outfit, with the Portuguese coach later suggesting the players "spoke really loud today about what they want" - hinting they weren't up to the challenge against the fourth-tier opponents.

They went into the interval 2-0 down and, to add insult to injury, the scorer of Grimsby's second goal - who also netted their ninth penalty in the shootout - came through United's own academy and is a close friend of Rashford.

Taking to Instagram, Warren shared some pictures of his celebrations and wrote: "Kauzzzy Fingyy," followed by a rocket emoji.

The post was 'liked' by Barcelona loanee Rashford, who has stayed close to Warren, despite their careers going in different directions.

Former United star Anthony Elanga wrote: "Ma guyyy man!" Tahith Chong replied with two fire emojis.

Previously talking about his friendship with 62-cap England forward Rashford, Warren detailed to The Manchester Evening News their bond from their academy days to now.

"There were a few of us at the time, all the same ages, all from Manchester - from the same area in Manchester - playing for the same local teams in that area and district," he said.

"So it was easy to get on with each other and get to know each other.

"He [Rashford]'s been to a few of my games with the rest of my mates - and it's interesting to see he'll still come and watch with his mates. He's not forgotten about friendship and it's all about friendship."

Warren was released by the Reds in 2019 after 14 years at Old Trafford. He then joined Grimsby in 2024 and, when he heard about facing his boyhood club in the League Cup, Warren added: "The funny thing is that I was sleeping when the draw happened!

"Two of my teammates ran into my room and told me that we'd got United at home and woke me up.

"Then I told my mum, told my family that we had got United. My mum was very happy because my mum and dad used to take me everywhere when I was a young kid, to training.

"They're happy for me to get the opportunity to play against United."
