Brentford's reported interest in Borussia Dortmund forward Max Beier could be set to unlock Yoane Wissa's move to Newcastle United. Eddie Howe's squad have seen two offers rejected for Wissa, with the latest up to £40million, as they look to strengthen their front-line before the end of the transfer window.

Despite Wissa's wish to leave and make the switch to St James' Park, Brentford have placed a £60million asking price on his head and do not want to lose him this summer. The 28-year-old has removed all association with the Bees on Instagram and he's pushing to make the big-money switch to the Magpies.

While Brentford have insisted that Wissa is not for sale, their proposed swoop for Beier could now set off a chain reaction and allow the DR Congo international to join Newcastle before Monday's deadline.

The Bees are said to be considering a move for long-term target Beier after failing to sign him last summer. The 22-year-old was an unused substitute during Dortmund's Bundesliga curtain-raiser against St Pauli.

Speaking about how Brentford's swoop for Beier could impact Wissa to Newcastle, BBC's Sami Mokbel told the Football Daily podcast: "You would imagine that from Wissa's perspective and his advisors' perspective that would finally unlock his move.

"They were of the assumption that, when Brentford had completed the signing of Dango Ouattara he could go, provided that Newcastle made a sufficient bid.

"Ouattara is in the building, yet Wissa is still hanging on for his move.

"I was chuffed for Keith Andrews to get that first league win. You feared for him - because it's his first managerial job and it's the Premier League - and he had a big bump in the road against Forest in their first game of the season.

"It goes to prove that there is life after Thomas Frank, life after Bryan Mbeumo, after Mark Flekken and Christian Norgaard. Now they've got that three points over the line, maybe they'll look at Wissa's situation and think; 'we can cope without him, let's do a deal' and bring in a player who wants to be there.

"Wissa has made it abundantly clear he wants to go to Newcastle."

The situation regarding Wissa's future comes amid Alexander Isak still not wanting to play for Newcastle as he continues to reiterate that he wants to move to Liverpool this summer.

Isak, 25, is adamant he has played his final game for the Magpies and is determined to push through a big-money transfer to Premier League champions Liverpool. The Sweden international has not featured for Eddie Howe's side during each of their opening two matches this season.
