The Green Bay Packers did something in the 2025 NFL Draft that they hadn’t done in over 20 years.
After years of the fans, analysts, and even Aaron Rodgers begging for a first-round receiver, the Packers finally delivered in 2025.
They recognized that this team needed some high-end receiving talent, so they pulled the trigger on Matthew Golden out of Texas.
Golden is viewed as a top-end talent who has great hands and elite speed, something that could help this offense get to the next level.
Fans are certainly excited, and former Packers QB Kurt Benkert recently broke down Golden’s game in a video he shared on X.
“His route tree is extensive. He creates separation like no other, and I think the Packers actually hit on a rookie receiver. They’re going to need to get him going early in this season,” Benkert said.
I really think Matthew Golden could be the difference for the Packers this year. Dude can ball.

If there wasn’t enough hype out there surrounding Golden, Benkert added more fuel to the fire.
He believes that Golden is the type of player the Packers were looking for, someone who can instantly add tremendous value to this offense.
Golden is slated to be called upon instantly, as this team has seen a lot of injuries to their receiving corps during the preseason and training camp.
If he performs anywhere close to what his ceiling might be, and what Benkert is describing, the Packers might have hit a home run.
Only time will tell, and Golden and his teammates will have a great opportunity to prove themselves in Week 1, taking on the Detroit Lions in what’s said to be a tough battle.
