Opinion: Vitor Pereira should now unleash £10m Wolves star on Everton after he lit up Molineux

Wolves will again go in pursuit of their first points in the Premier League this weekend with Everton the opponents at Molineux.

Wolves beat West Ham United in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, coming from behind thanks to a quick-fire brace from Jorgen Strand Larsen.

It was a morale-boosting victory after opening with two defeats in the Premier League, and fans are hopeful this can be the start of a good run.

It’s Everton up next for Wolves, and the Toffees also won their second round Carabao Cup match last night, beating Mansfield Town 2-0.

Pereira made important substitutions against West Ham on Tuesday, and those that came on really helped turn the game.

All five players who were introduced had an impact, and will hope to start against Everton – and Jackson Tchatchoua should be one of those.

Tchatchoua – who cost around £10 million (BBC Sport) – joined Wolves on August 19, arriving from Hellas Verona in a deal worth around £10 million.

Tchatchoua wasn’t Wolves’ first choice target, but the Cameroon international has already made an impression.

Against West Ham, he played the last 20 minutes or so, and was an immediate threat with his searing pace on the right side.

In the 86th minute, fans got to see him in full flow as he was released into space, and his speed was genuinely reminiscent of Adama Traore.

You could hear the noise levels of the crowd increase as he stretched his legs, and it was just a shame he didn’t take the ball inside as he might have had a chance to score his first goal.

But Tchatchoua did record his first assist for Wolves, finding Strand Larsen with a great cross.

Fans really loved Tchatchoua’s lively performance against West Ham, with many calling for Pereira to start him against Everton.

Although Rodrigo Gomes did well too and scored, Tchatchoua probably should get the nod against Everton, with Ki-Jana Hoever an injury doubt for the game.

Everton’s left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko is definitely not known for his speed, and there is an opportunity for Tchatchoua to advance up the pitch and really get at the Ukrainian.

It would perhaps also be better to go with Tchatchoua and his physicality to defend against either Iliman Ndiaye or Jack Grealish.

Tchatchoua could be a real threat for Wolves

Wolves have been keen to talk about Tchatchoua’s pace.

When he signed, the club touched on that several times in their scout report of the player, also mentioning the fact he was the fastest player in Serie A last season, clocking 36.3km/h.

One frequent criticism of Nelson Semedo was that he did not provide as many goals or assists as he should have, for the positions he used to take up.

The former captain was a dependable player and decent defensively, but could be found wanting with his final third output.

Semedo would regularly get right up to areas around the penalty box. But he only scored three goals and made 11 assists in 182 appearances.

It’s a small sample size so far but Tchatchoua looks like he could be a real hit at Molineux. He certainly will be if he can provide a good final ball after utilising that amazing pace.
