Amorim could kill youngster’s Man United dream

Man United star could see his career implode if Ruben Amorim doesn’t deliver on his promises of regular game time.

Amorim to let go of Man United youngster ?

Kobbie Mainoo was once the golden boy at Carrington. The kid everyone thought would carry United’s midfield for the next decade. His rise was electric, a goal in the FA Cup final, a spot in England’s Euro 2024 squad, and comparisons with Marcus Rashford’s breakthrough.

Fast forward a year, and he hasn’t played a single competitive minute this season. He did feature against Grimsby Town in the League Cup, but his Man United story is fading fast. Ruben Amorim insists Mainoo will be “competing” with Bruno Fernandes.

The system doesn’t suit him either. Amorim’s 3-4-3 thrives on experienced midfield generals. The head coach doesn’t appear convinced Mainoo could overtake the likes of Ugarte, Casemiro or Mount.

Kobbie Mainoo's future at Manchester United is up in the air ahead of the final few days of the transfer window.

Exit door wide open

Reports claim Mainoo is eyeing a move away from Old Trafford. He is eyeing a fresh start at a UCL club. United are open to listening to offers as well. With a £60m tag attached, interest at that price may not be easy to find. Still, the fact the homegrown midfielder is even linked with an exit highlights how far he’s fallen in a year.

The next few games are huge. United face Burnley, then City and Chelsea after the break. Amorim had every reason to rotate against Grimsby. Mainoo got the nod, but fans will rightly question whether promises made to him were ever genuine. For a talent of his caliber, wasting away on the bench feels very harsh.

Author’s Opinion

Kobbie Mainoo deserves better than his current bench roles. Ruben Amorim is taking a chance by not trusting in him even in smaller fixtures. That said, Man United should let him move on before his potential fades completely.
