The Dallas Cowboys and star defensive end Micah Parsons are reportedly “pretty close” to a resolution, according to ESPN insider Dan Graziano.
With the Cowboys and Eagles set to open the NFL season in a week, Graziano provided a major update on where things stand with Parsons and the Cowboys Thursday morning on Get Up.
“I feel like there’s been a little bit of a turn in the story, to the point where, based on conversations we were having yesterday and last night, that a resolution feels like it might be pretty close,” Graziano said. “Now, what that resolution is, I think, is still up in the air.”
One possible resolution is a new long-term contract, which is what Micah Parsons has been seeking all along.
“It could be a deal between him and the Cowboys, a long-term deal,” Graziano said. “It sounds a little bit unlikely considering how little work has been done on that recently.”
Another option is Parsons choosing to finish out his current deal, according to the ESPN insider, despite the former Harrisburg High and Penn State star requesting a trade at the beginning of August.
“It could be that he decides to show up and play. Play on the fifth-year option, play it out, and dare them to franchise him next year, which I think they would," Graziano said.
Micah Parsons has been sitting out at practice as he deals with what has been described as a back issue. That possible injury could incentivize Parsons to not play, although some have questioned how injured he really is.
“It could be that he continues to sit out and says that his back hurts. He went and got a second opinion on his back yesterday, so that could be preparing for that sort of argument,“ Graziano said.
Finally, there’s the possibility that Parsons is indeed traded after requesting a trade several weeks back.
The Cowboys have not seemed very interested in trading the four-time Pro Bowler, but perhaps that is about to change.
“And then there’s the possibility of a trade, which I think a week ago I would’ve said was not a possibility. But now I think we’re at a point where you can’t rule it out,” Graziano said. “This thing has dragged on long enough. And I think there are teams that have called the Cowboys and said, ‘Are you interested?’
“And I think where the answer used to be, ‘No, we’re not trading him,’ now it’s like, ‘Well, what would that look like?’ So, you know, we’ll see. But I think in the next couple of days, maybe by the end of the weekend, we could have some resolution on this one way or the other. I just don’t feel comfortable predicting which way.”
