Kobbie Mainoo’s future at Manchester United is up in the air.
The young Englishman impressed everyone when he first burst onto the scene at Old Trafford. His performances even earned him an England call-up.
However, under Ruben Amorim, Mainoo has played just 29 times and has often been overlooked in the middle of the park in recent times.
That has led to a lot of speculation about his future, and Gary Neville has now had his say.
Gary Neville thinks he knows why Kobbie Mainoo is ready to leave Manchester United
Kobbie Mainoo has long been viewed as the future of Manchester United’s midfield.
The 20-year-old is a player with immense talent, and he has shown his quality at the highest level for club and country over the last two years.
However, TBR Football exclusively revealed that Mainoo is ready to leave Manchester United this summer after an agreement over a new contract has not been reached.
Amorim not giving Mainoo enough game time is also a big issue, and the player is now ‘gutted’ that his time at Old Trafford could be coming to an end.
Hearing about Mainoo’s willingness to leave, Neville has shared an interesting theory.
He said on the Stick to Football podcast: “He’ll be friends with [Alejandro] Garnacho, I suspect, and he’ll be friends with Marcus [Rashford], and I suspect he’s looking at what has happened with those two and thinking ‘I’m being left out here’.
“He might be looking at it and just thinking ‘I’m going to get out’.”

Manchester United could end up regretting their decision if they sell Kobbie Mainoo
Amorim clearly prefers other midfielders over Mainoo at the moment.
The Red Devils boss is very particular about his system and the kind of players he wants in his starting line-up, and it is clear that he doesn’t fancy the 20-year-old.
That could be the reason why Manchester United end up selling Mainoo in the final days of the window, but we think they will regret it.
The England international has the potential to become an absolute superstar in the coming years, and he could have a big impact at a rival club.
We think Amorim should keep Mainoo and give him more opportunities in the coming weeks.
