Report: Club could be 'tempted' to sell their star player for £60m but they don't want him to go to Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as contenders to sign West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paqueta this summer.

The Brazil international has had a difficult time due to issues off the pitch, but that is behind him now.

TBR Football revealed that Paqueta could end up leaving West Ham this summer, and that remains a possibility in the final days of the window.

Tottenham are one of the clubs that have thought about signing him.

West Ham United are deeply reluctant to sell Lucas Paqueta to Tottenham

Lucas Paqueta, on his day, is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.

The Brazil international has been brilliant for the Hammers since he joined them, and he has been linked with big moves to several clubs.

Tottenham need a new attacking midfielder in this window after losing James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski to injuries.

Spurs have tried to strengthen that area of their squad, but Eberechi Eze rejected Tottenham, and Morgan Gibbs-White ended up signing a new contract at Nottingham Forest.

TBR revealed that Tottenham and West Ham held talks about a blockbuster loan swap deal that would’ve seen Yves Bissouma moving to the London Stadium and Paqueta in the opposite direction.

That deal fell apart, but it is clear that Paqueta’s name has come up in discussions behind the scenes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Now, TeamTalk have claimed that West Ham could be ‘tempted’ to sell Paqueta for a fee of £50-60 million, but they are ‘deeply reluctant’ to let him join Tottenham, with Dean Jones noting in a tweet that the Irons ‘don’t want’ such a bid from Spurs.

That’s because of the potential backlash the board would receive from the Irons fan base, having already sold Mohammed Kudus to Spurs.

The report further claims that Tottenham have accepted that any move they make for Paqueta will likely be knocked back.

Tottenham need to hurry up in the transfer window

Tottenham are running out of time to strengthen their attacking midfield.

The North Londoners will argue that they tried their best to sign Eze and Gibbs-White, but the fact that they missed out on both of them puts them in a really difficult position.

There are now less than five days left before the transfer window shuts, and Spurs don’t have time to explore their options – they need to choose a player and go all out for him.

Paqueta, in our opinion, would be an amazing signing for Tottenham, and we think Spurs should get him even if it means they have to overpay to convince West Ham.
