Turkish club Besiktas has mutually agreed to terminate the contract of former Arsenal and Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The 32-year-old joined the Istanbul side in 2023, making 50 appearances and scoring five goals during his time at the club. He also lifted the Turkish Cup in the 2023/24 season.
According to BBC Sport, Besiktas will pay Oxlade-Chamberlain a severance package worth €1.75 million (£1.58 million).

His departure now paves the way for a potential return to English football, with Championship side Birmingham City and a host of other second-tier clubs reportedly interested in securing his signature.
A move to Birmingham would also reunite Oxlade-Chamberlain with his fiancee, pop star Perrie Edwards, and their young son.
Edwards previously revealed in 2024 that the couple had not lived together at any point during their nine-year relationship due to his football commitments abroad. A return to England could allow the family to finally settle together.

Oxlade-Chamberlain enjoyed a decorated career in England, playing 198 times for Arsenal, where he scored 20 goals and won three FA Cups. His six-year spell at Liverpool was equally successful, as he lifted the Champions League, Premier League, and UEFA Super Cup among other trophies.

Birmingham City’s ambitious ownership group, led by chairman Tom Wagner and NFL legend Tom Brady as minority owner, has been working to strengthen the squad and attract high-profile names.
For Oxlade-Chamberlain, a move to St Andrew’s will not only give him a perfect chance to reunite with his lovely family, but may also represent the move he needed to revive his dwindling football career back at home, exactly where he started it all -on English soil.
