Diogo Dalot gave an honest interview after Manchester United crashed out of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
Manchester United ruled out one route back into Europe after suffering elimination from the Carabao Cup in the second round.
Despite going to Blundell Park as favourites, United suffered defeat on penalties against Grimsby Town.
Ruben Amorim’s side struggled from the start and went in at half-time with a two-goal deficit after two howlers from Andre Onana. However, they turned things around in the second half when goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire forced the game to penalties.
New signing Mbeumo missed the decisive penalty in the shootout as Grimsby Town booked a place in the third round.
That means United only have the Premier League and FA Cup to compete in for the remainder of the season, and it’s not September yet.

Diogo Dalot slams performance after Grimsby Town defeat
It has been a poor start to the season for United.
After a turbulent 2024/25 campaign, United were expected to improve after adding four new players to the squad over the summer.
More United News
United are winless in three matches (one draw, two defeats), with pressure mounting on Amorim and his players.
Dalot faced the media after United’s embarrassing defeat in the Carabao Cup, admitting that the performance wasn’t good enough.
“I mean, it was not good enough, clearly, especially in the first half,” Dalot told MUTV.
“We gave the game to them.
“We gave them exactly what they wanted: winning duels, second balls, set plays. We fought back, but I think that is the minimum we could show to the fans that travelled today for ourselves and for the club.
“It was clearly not good enough. We cannot come here and expect that it is going to be easy because this competition, this club… they fought really hard to deserve to go through.
“But it shouldn’t be enough to win against us because we should have shown much more.”
Dalot must take responsibility for his own performance
It was another forgettable display from Dalot, except United fans will remember it for the wrong reasons.
The Portugal international offered nothing and was dismal at both ends.
Dalot was partly at fault for Grimsby Town’s opening goal when he failed to protect Tyler Fredricson after being caught in no-man’s land.
The only positive from Dalot’s performance is that he scored in the shootout, but it was a surprise to see Patrick Dorgu hauled off instead of him at half-time.
Perhaps Dalot should focus on his performances rather than worrying about others.
