Boston Red Sox infielder Abraham Toro continues to prove he’s a cut above minor league competition.
Toro went 2-for-4 on Wednesday night for the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox, smashing a double—his eighth of the season—and a home run, his third.
Over 128 plate appearances in Worcester this year, Toro is slashing .306/ .398/ .500. Yet, Toro remains caught in the limbo between Triple-A and the big leagues.
At 28, Toro’s versatility across infield positions and hot stretches in the majors suggest he’s too talented for Triple-A. Still, Toro went through a prolonged slump and was unable to lock down a permanent role in the majors this year, which coincided with Boston going out and snagging first baseman Nathaniel Lowe, a revelation so far.
Toro shouldn’t feel uncertain about his big league future, even if Boston’s crowded roster limits his chances at the moment.

Given Toro’s track record, it’s likely only a matter of time before another major league team recognizes his value. His bat and defensive flexibility make him an attractive option for clubs needing infield depth.
Toro should stay ready. Another injury for the Red Sox could result in another call-up. Moreover, moving forward, a trade to a new organization might be on the horizon for Toro.
