CINCINNATI — Former North Dakota State offensive lineman Cordell Volson isn't going anywhere, despite being cut by the Cincinnati Bengals on Tuesday.
Volson cleared waivers Wednesday and reverted to Cincinnati's injured reserve list, making him ineligible to play the rest of the season.
Volson suffered a season-ending shoulder injury last week that will require surgery, so he was waived by the Bengals with an injury designation. When he wasn't claimed by another team before Wednesday's deadline, he reverted to the Bengals' injury list.
He's expected to return in 2026.
The Balfour, N.D., native was Cincinnati's fourth-round draft pick in 2022 after wrapping up a five-year career at NDSU. Volson has been the Bengals' starting left guard for three seasons and has played in 53 games including postseason.
Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "staff." Often, the "staff" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
