Toulouse vs PSG - prediction, team news, lineups

Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain make the trip to Toulouse on gameweek three of the new season this Saturday.

Both clubs take 100% starts into the weekend, with Toulouse just ahead of the holders on goal difference, following two wins from two.

Match preview

While 1-0 wins over Nantes and Angers look far from convincing, PSG have hardly broken into sweat so far this season, picking up a maximum of six points without conceding a single shot on target.

Those low-scoring wins are also slightly deceiving, because PSG have still registered 39 shots in their first two games, and an xG over three.

Keeping it tight at the back domestically is rare for PSG though, because they could now start a Ligue 1 season with three consecutive clean sheets for the first time since 2015-16, and they may need to with some tricky fixtures coming up after the international break.

Lens, Marseille, Lille and Strasbourg all await the champions across their five matches following the September internationals, and if PSG come through that run unbeaten, the title race may fade even earlier than last year.

PSG’s dominance over the rest in France’s top flight was illustrated again against Angers, as they registered 83.3% possession, the second-highest tally ever, after the 84.1% they clocked against Nantes last season.

Toulouse are up next for Luis Enrique’s men, and PSG are the only team who have stopped them from scoring here at the Municipal Stadium across their last 17 home matches.

TFC have failed to win any of their previous five home matches against PSG, and when facing the previous season’s reigning champions at home in Ligue 1, they have won just twice in the last 14 years.

However, the hosts have made a strong start, beating both Nice and Brest without conceding, despite having less possession and fewer shots in both matches.

Frank Magri’s brace sealed a 2-0 win over Brest here last weekend, and that leaves them second in Ligue 1, continuing strong form from the back end of last season, as they are now six games unbeaten.

This is an opportunity for Toulouse to win four straight Ligue 1 games for the first time since 2011, and their run of four wins in their last five matches is as many as they managed in the previous 18, so it is not the ideal time to face them.

Sticking with manager Carles Martinez has been a wise move, as he has now established them as a top-flight club again with three straight mid-table finishes and a cup victory, but this could be the year where they look more towards the European places instead.

Team News

PSG's Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in action with Bayern Munich's Michael Olise on July 5, 2025

Toulouse have a few players sidelined with injury at present, including Niklas Schmidt with a long-term knee injury, and new signing Abu Francis, who is yet to feature since moving from Cercle Brugge.

Rafik Messali is yet to feature for the club this season either, but Julian Vignolo could make his debut after being an unused substitute last weekend.

Vignolo has arrived after a mass exodus of attackers from Toulouse this summer that has seen Shavy Babicka, Josh King and Zakaria Aboukhlal all depart, as well as influential midfielder Vincent Sierro.

Presnel Kimpembe and Senny Mayulu are set to remain out for PSG, while Khvicha Kvaratskhelia also missed the win over Angers with a minor setback that could see him miss international duty with Georgia.

Gianluigi Donnarumma said his goodbyes to the Parc des Princes crowd last weekend as his exit nears closer, with Carlos Soler also expected to depart before the deadline next week.

After a ropey performance in the Super Cup, goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier will be glad that he has been able to casually warm to the PSG gloves, having not faced a single shot on his goal in 180 minutes of action so far this season.

Toulouse possible starting lineup:

Restes; Sidibe, Canvot, Cresswell, McKenzie, Methalie; Casseres, Sauer; Donnum, Magri, Gboho

Paris Saint-Germain possible starting lineup:

Chevalier; Hakimi, Zabarnyi, Lucas Beraldo, Nuno Mendes; Joao Neves, Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz; Doue, Dembele, Barcola

We say: Toulouse 0-2 Paris Saint-Germain

PSG’s scorelines so far do not do justice to how dominant they have been in both matches, and as they ease themselves into the new season after a hectic summer, their superiority will shine through, potentially starting here.

Toulouse have made a great start, but there is no shame in losing to the reigning champions, and even if they put up a good fight here, any result looks unlikely.
