A company owned by Bill Belichick is looking to cash in on the coverage and criticism surrounding the coach’s relationship with girlfriend Jordon Hudson.
On Aug. 25, TCE Rights Management LLC filed to trademark the phrase “gold digger” for use in the production and sale of jewelry and key chains. The application is currently listed as “pending” on the United States Patent and Trademark Office website.
“Gold digger” is a pejorative term used to describe a younger person who is in a relationship with an older person with the expectation that they’ll benefit from their partner’s wealth. It’s a term that’s been used by those who are critical of the 24-year-old Hudson’s relationship with the 73-year-old North Carolina coach.
On the surface, it seems like a bizarre choice for the company, which lists Hudson as its manager.
Earlier this year, TCE Rights Management LLC filed for 17 trademarks relating to Belichick, many of which focused on his time with the New England Patriots.
Among the proposed trademarks were: Chapel Bill (Bill’s Version), Belestrator (Bill’s Version), The Dynasty (Bill’s Version), The Belestrator (Bill’s Version), Saving Miss Daisy, Trail of Salty Tears, Do Your Job (Bill’s Version), All-Belichick Team, The All Time All-Belichick Team, Peachy Keen and Wonderful, No Days Off (Bill’s Version), The All-Belichick Team, Chapel Bill, The Belichick Way, Ignore the Noise (Bill’s Version), Dynasty (Bill’s Version).
