Arsenal are eyeing their eighth signing of the summer transfer window.
The Gunners have had a productive summer with seven arrivals.
Arsenal are keen on another marquee centre-back before the deadline, and it is widely known that they are interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie.
Negotiations are underway with the German outfit for the Ecuador international. If a deal materialises for the 23-year-old, the club are open to offloading Jakub Kiwior.
The Sun journalist Jordan Davies now claims that Kiwior has already ‘agreed personal terms’ with Porto.
Arsenal have likewise accepted a loan offer with an obligation to buy for £22.5 million next summer.
A deal will go through if Arsenal can secure Hincapie’s services before Monday’s transfer deadline.
Kiwior poised to leave as Arsenal close in on Hincapie
Kiwior has been a quality back-up option behind William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes in central defence.
The Poland international had a mixed start to his Gunners career as he struggled with his positioning and the physicality of the Premier League on occasions.
However, he stepped up for Arsenal during the previous campaign. He was exceptional in Gabriel’s injury absence in April/May, outshining Saliba several times.
Kiwior was highlighted as a potential weak link during the season run-in, but it was rather Saliba who was guilty of unforced defensive errors, which was unlike him.
We are not surprised that the £58,000 per week star is eyeing a new challenge. He may want guaranteed playing time in the XI during the prime phase of his career.
Meanwhile, Hincapie has agreed on personal terms with the Gunners too, but the club’s hierarchy still need to reach a transfer agreement with Leverkusen.
The Ecuadorian is superior to Kiwior when it comes to winning duels, and there are suggestions that Arsenal could play with a back three after his arrival.
