As we near the end of the transfer window, we thought it would be a good idea to assess the ages of every Premier League squad.
A balance between youth and experience is usually required to be successful at the highest level.
Nonetheless, some teams invest more heavily in youth than others, and that is borne out by the average age of their team. Read below as we go through the youngest squads in the English top flight (based on data from Transfermarkt).
5) Tottenham – 24.9
Spurs have just two players over the age of 30 – one of whom has only just joined on loan from Bayern Munich – Joao Palhinha.
At the other end of the spectrum, there are seven members of the first team squad who are 21 or under.
Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray and Mathys Tel have all been playing on a regular basis for the London club since being signed too.
If they manage to secure the signature of Xavi Simons (22) over the coming days, that could lower Tottenham’s average age even further.
4) Bournemouth – 24.8
The Cherries have been hailed for their recruitment in recent years, and a lot of credit has to go to the scouting team who have managed to identify promising young players.
This summer, Andoni Iraola’s team have invested heavily in youth once more, spending significant sums on forwards Eli Kroupi (19) and Ben Doak (19).
Other additions, such as Amine Adli (25), Adrien Truffert (23) and Bafode Diakite (24), are slightly older but they are still 25 years of age or younger.
Like Tottenham, they have just two players over 30, captain Adam Smith (24) and Ryan Christie (30).
