Lautaro Martinez's agent has broken his silence after shock reports in South America claimed Newcastle United had reached out ahead of a potential move for the Argentinian striker.

Reports from Argentina claim the Magpies have made contact with Martinez's representatives ahead of a potential move to St. James' Park, though it is claimed Alejandro Camano 'did not answer the phone.'

Martinez, who joined Inter Milan from Racing Club in 2018, has scored 154 goals in 336 appearances for I Nerazzurri and is one of the most prolific strikers in Europe. CIES Football Observatory value the 28-year-old striker in the region of £102 million.

Those claims have been attributed to Fox Sports, though there's no link or traceable report to back that up aside from a post on social media.

The likelihood of a move to St. James' Park has been played down further by Camano who, as quoted by the website FCInter1908, said: "Lautaro plays for Inter, the European runner-up team.

"He’s Inter’s captain, he’s happy at Inter. There are some questions that don’t even need an answer."

Newcastle are still on the hunt for a new striker after Callum Wilson left the club earlier this summer, having missed out on the likes of Joao Pedro, Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko. The Magpies have also had bids for Yoane Wissa and Jorgen Strand Larsen rejected, with just days left of the summer transfer window.

It's been a frustrating off-season for Eddie Howe, who has also had to deal with the Alexander Isak bombshell after the Swedish international expressed his desire to leave the club this summer.

As things stand it's unlikely Isak will be granted permission to leave St. James' Park given their inability to bring in a new centre-forward, while Liverpool are also yet to meet Newcastle's asking price of £150m.

Newcastle would need a replacement for both Wilson and Isak before sanctioning a departure for the Swedish striker. Although Martinez is one of the best strikers in the world, it's highly unlikely Newcastle will push for the 28-year-old.
