Leeds United will be looking to get back to winning ways against Newcastle on Saturday.

Daniel Farke‘s side welcome the Magpies to Elland Road, keen to bounce back from the embarrassing 5-0 defeat to Arsenal.

Leeds’ Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Sheffield Wednesday has put further pressure on Farke, as sack talk has started to emerge again.

Leeds chairman Paraag Marathe seemed to back the German in an interview only weeks ago, but it would help if results were positive in the next few weeks.

Jeff Stelling makes an ‘astonishing’ prediction for Leeds vs Newcastle

Leeds may not have to worry about Alexander Isak, but the Magpies are still a very good side, as they showed against Premier League champions Liverpool last time out.

They were unfortunate to lose to the Reds after fighting back from a 2-0 deficit with 10 men after Anthony Gordon was sent off.

Jeff Stelling believes that the Whites’ form at Elland Road will be vital to their survival hopes and thinks they can come away with a result, despite Newcastle’s impressive display.

Speaking via talkSPORT on 28 August, he said: “Leeds’ opening day win was as warming as a cup of Yorkshire tea, then Arsenal added a few huge dollops of reality.

“Truth is, Leeds’ form at Elland Road will be their key to survival. I do think they are a bit short on quality, though.

“Newcastle’s walking wounded will have to raise themselves again after their astonishing effort against Liverpool at St James’ Park. I am going Leeds 1-1 Newcastle.”

Leeds need to get points at Elland Road

As Stelling said, the Peacocks’ form at home will be absolutely crucial if they are to stay in the division.

They need to pick up as many points as possible from their league games in LS11.

The battle for survival looks set to go down to the wire, with all three promoted teams already having a win each on the board, while established top-flight clubs like West Ham and Wolves struggle.

Leeds’ position in the top-flight

The result at Arsenal was a huge reality check, but they will not be judged on that game, as they are title contenders, and the Whites were always expected to lose at the Emirates Stadium.

Stealing points from the big teams at home, as well as beating their relegation rivals, is an absolute must if Farke is to stay in the job and keep his side at the elite level.

It is encouraging that Stelling has seen each from the Yorkshire outfit to predict that they will draw against Eddie Howe’s side, but they need to actually get a positive result.
