La Liga club scrambling to seal late deal for United defender as French giant waits in the wings - report

Tyrell Malacia is inching closer to leaving Manchester United before the close of the summer transfer window on Monday, September 1.

### Malacia attracting interest ahead of deadline day

Malacia has never really taken off at United since joining the club in the summer of 2022 as Erik ten Hag’s first signing.

He enjoyed a decent debut season but his progress was halted by a serious knee injury at the end of it, which kept him sidelined for well over a year.

The Netherlands international suffered multiple setbacks during his recovery. He returned to first-team action in November 2024 but found it hard to break into Ruben Amorim’s plans. Malacia played just seven times under Amorim before he was sent out on loan to PSV Eindhoven in January.

But it wasn’t a successful loan as he played 12 times for the club. Malacia is part of the infamous United ‘bomb squad’ and the club are pushing hard to offload him ahead of deadline day.

There has been no shortage of interest in him, with the likes of AS Roma and Porto thought to be keen on adding him to their ranks.

Now, journalist Matteo Moretto has indicated that two more clubs have entered the fray for the United defender – Elche and Lille.

### Elche and Lille eyeing Malacia

According to Moretto, Elche are working on completing a deal for Malacia while Lille are also keeping close tabs on the situation.

Moretto wrote on X, “Elche is working on the loan of Tyrell Malacia, left-back from Manchester United.”

“Other clubs, including Lille, are also pursuing him.”

> El Elche está trabajando en la cesión de Tyrell Malacia, lateral izquierdo del Manchester United.

>

> Otros clubes, entre ellos el Lille, también le pretenden.

It’s still unclear whether United would be open to letting Malacia leave on loan.

The 26-year-old’s contract expires next summer, so this window represents the club’s best chance of getting some money from parting ways with him.
