Tottenham looking to hijack Chelsea target with £70m bid for Leipzig star - Chelsea

Tottenham are attempting to hijack Chelsea’s move for RB Leipzig forward Xavi Simons. Simons has been the subject of negotiations between Leipzig and Chelsea for a large portion of the transfer window, with personal terms believed to be already agreed.

No formal bid has been launched by Chelsea yet however as the Blues are reluctant to meet Leipzig’s asking price. Chelsea are also believed to be focused on outgoings first, which has now paved the way for Tottenham to swoop in and hijack the deal.

ESPN has reported that Spurs have now entered negotiations with Leipzig, and have submitted a bid close to the region of Leipzig’s £70m asking price. Simons has reportedly now been given permission to travel to London to sort out his future, amid talks between Leipzig and both London clubs with Tottenham believed to leading the race.

Spurs looking to hijack Chelsea’s Xavi Simons deal

Both Spurs and Chelsea have their eyes on two new signings before the transfer window closes less than a week from now. Spurs are looking to bring in a No.10 and a winger, and have also been linked with Man City winger Savinho, as well as Como playmaker Nico Paz, and Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche.

Simons can play either as a No.10 or a winger, so he solves much of Tottenham’s desires with his versatility.

Chelsea are looking to bring in two attacking players if they can first find suitors for Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson. Both are nearing an exit from Stamford Bridge, and Chelsea could progress in deals for replacements.

The Blue are close to agreeing a deal with Manchester United for winger Alejandro Garnacho, and are believed to be looking to add another attacking midfielder in addition. The Blues have already invested heavily in attack this transfer window, signing strikers Joao Pedro and Liam Delap for £60m and £30m respectively.
