The Washington Commanders have been a hot topic in the NFL this week, and for positive reasons. In the final stretch before the regular season begins, they were able to put an end to their dragged-out off-field saga.
Throughout training camp and preseason, the Commanders found themselves without the services of wide receiver Terry McLaurin. He had been at odds with the front office for weeks due to failed contract extension talks. However, that all wrapped up on Monday when the two sides were able to come to an agreement.
Washington ended up signing McLaurin to a three-year deal worth $94 million. Now that this ordeal is behind him, the veteran wideout has begun ramping up for the Commanders' season opener against the New York Giants on September 7th.
Among the many who is elated to see McLaurin back in the mix is quarterback Jayden Daniels.
Jayden Daniels shares initial reaction to Terry McLaurin extension news
As most know, Daniels put together one of the best rookie seasons for a QB in recent memory last season. This success would not have been possible if he didn't have a dynamic receiver like McLaurin to throw the ball to. Now that he'll be in Washington for the foreseeable future, the rising star no longer has to worry about possibly being without his top target.
During a recent interview with Taylor Rooks, Daniels was asked how he reacted to the McLaurin news. He jokingly stated that after he saw the dollar amount, he immediately sought him out to ask to borrow some money.
"We were actually on the field, we were running. I came to the locker room, looked at my phone. So I went to find Terry, he was in the weight room," Daniels said. "I told him just let me hold something, just a little something. I don't need much...But I was super excited for Terry. Just how much work he put in over these years and he's deserving of it. I'm happy we back out here and now we're moving forward."
After nearly taking the Commanders to the Super Bowl last season, Daniels has massive expectations to meet this season. Luckily for him, he'll have his go-to target at his disposal again as he attempts to stay on the path towards superstardom.
