The Seagulls ran out 6-0 victors in the second-round tie at Oxford United.
It was the first time they had scored six goals in their 163 games in the competition dating back to 1960-61.
It was their biggest win in any away game since 2000.
Perhaps more extraordinary than those feats, the match matched a landmark they set right back in 1901, in their first ever competitive fixture, and had never repeated.
Three debutants scored as Albion ran riot at the Kassam Stadium.
That had not been achieved since the club kicked off their inaugural campaign.
Bert Baker, Clem Barker and CJ Mendham were the men who scored against Brighton Athletic in the FA Cup on September 21, 1901 and whose feat has now been emulated by Olivier Boscagli, Stefanos Tzimas and Tommy Watson.
In terms of margin, the result eclipsed five 4-0 wins in the League Cup, all of which were at home and the most recent of which was only last year.
And, for goals scored in a League Cup tie, the half-dozen beat a club record which had stood for 40 years.
A Danny Wilson hat-trick led Albion to a 5-2 win over Bradford City at the Goldstone Ground in 1985-86.
Martin Keown and Steve Penney were also on target that night.
The 4-0 home wins included two against Colchester, the first of them in 1967-68, plus one against Barnet at Withdean in the first home game of Micky Adams’ second stint in charge.
More recently, Portsmouth and Crawley were defeated by the same scoreline at the Amex.
Albion have had five 4-2 wins in the League Cup, the most recent coming at the Kassam Stadium nine years ago.
The 6-0 margin was Albion's biggest away success in all competitions since a Bobby Zamora hat-trick helped them win 7-1 at Chester in the fourth tier in 1999-2000.
Tzimas is the first Seagulls player to score twice on his debut since Will Buckley, also a substitute, did so against Doncaster on the opening day of the 2011-12 season as Albion arrived at the Amex.
