Savinho’s future finally seems to be resolved after weeks of speculation.
Manchester City are set to keep Savinho, informing Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday that they have no intention of letting him go this summer.
Pep Guardiola would have been surprised that despite the youngster just being 21, he was reportedly keen on leaving City after one season.
Savinho was keen to play under Thomas Frank as he felt the former Brentford boss would make him a regular starter — boosting his chances of making the cut for Brazil’s 2026 World Cup squad.

Considering the former Troyes attacker is Manchester City’s only natural right-winger, the fact that he seemingly feared being a regular starter despite competing with natural midfielders like Oscar Bobb, Phil Foden and Rayan Cherki for a place is concerning.
While Pep Guardiola claimed Savinho has “incredible potential”, an elite mindset is a priceless trait for any top player to have and especially at Manchester City, where it is a prerequisite to embrace competition.

Perhaps the Sao Mateus-born wideman may have felt he could start regularly on the left-wing for Tottenham, a position where he thrived at Girona and has not been deployed in too many times at City.
However, Savinho admitted right-wing is his “favourite position” and on the left, he has blown hot and cold for Manchester City — starring in a 2-0 win against Leicester City but frustrating in the Sky Blues’ 2-2 draw against Brentford.

While Pep Guardiola clearly rates Savinho very highly, the fact of the matter is that if he is not up for the fight, the Manchester City boss is unlikely to give him many chances after his potential transfer to Tottenham broke down.
