Colts Projected to Dump Former First-Round Pick in Compelling Trade

The Indianapolis Colts were hoping to contend heading into the 2025 NFL campaign, but their messy quarterback situation will obviously make that difficult.

Daniel Jones beat out Anthony Richardson for the starting job, which doesn't exactly spell great news for the Colts this year. Perhaps Indianapolis is already considering punting to 2026, and in that case, the Colts may look to trade some players in the coming weeks.

Bleacher Report's Moe Moton has identified defensive end Kwity Paye as a potential trade candidate for Indianapolis, noting that Paye is entering the final year of his contract. More specifically, he predicts that the Colts will trade Paye to the Washington Commanders for a third-round draft pick and a fifth-rounder.

"Paye isn't a marquee player, but he's consistent and still has room for growth," Moton wrote. "The 26-year-old has logged at least eight sacks in back-to-back seasons and 10 tackles for loss in two of his four campaigns. Indianapolis may not be willing to give Paye a new contract before he tests free agency next offseason. If rookie second-rounder JT Tuimoloau shows flashes this year, the Colts may listen to offers for Paye."

Tuimoloau may have been one of the biggest steals of the NFL Draft back in April, and with Indy also having Laiatu Latu also on board, it makes sense that the Colts would consider offers for Paye.

Paye, who played his collegiate football at Michigan, was originally selected by Indianapolis with the 21st overall pick of the 2021 draft. It didn't take him long to make an impact, as he finished with 32 tackles and four sacks in Year 1 and has progressed well ever since.

Whether or not Paye will ever actually develop into a star, though, remains to be seen, and the Colts may not want to wait around and find out. That's especially considering that both Latu and Tuimoloau boast star potential themselves.

If Indianapolis can nab a couple of draft picks in return for Paye, it may want to seriously consider making the move.
