New Kings PG Dennis Schroder shines in EuroBasket win

New Sacramento Kings point guard Dennis Schroder is putting on a show for Germany in this year’s FIBA EuroBasket, an international tournament between teams that play in the European Zone of the International Basketball Federation.

Dennis Schroder, a German native playing for Germany alongside fellow NBA talents like Franz Wagner, Daniel Theis, and Tristan Da Silva, was named Player of the Game following a 106-76 win over Montenegro on Wednesday.

The new Kings guard racked up 21 points on seven-of-13 shooting from the field to go along with four assists and one steal over just 22 minutes.

Dennis Schroder and Germany will be back in action on Friday when they face Sweden at 3:30 am PT.

More on Kings guard Dennis Schroder

Following a week of negotiations, the Sacramento Kings and Detroit Pistons officially completed a sign-and-trade deal in July that included the signing of guard Dennis Schroder.

The Kings reached an agreement with Dennis Schroder during the opening hours of free agency on June 30th, but Sacramento looked to get creative in how they would officially acquire the veteran floor general.

Sacramento announced the full trade in July, as Schröder–who inked a three-year, $45 million deal (final year partially guaranteed) and a 2029 second-round pick landed with the Kings, while Detroit took back a protected (31st-55th pick) 2026 second-round pick.

Dennis Schroder was acquired by Sacramento using part of its $16.8 million trade exception that was created in the Kevin Huerter trade from February. Detroit will now also be able to make a $14.8 million player trade exception.

Dennis Schröder, who is coming off his 12th NBA season, spent the 2024-25 season with Brooklyn, Golden State, and Detroit, where he finished with averages of 13.1 points, 2.6 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 0.9 steals per game on 40/34/83 shooting splits (75 games).

The 32-year-old has played in 74 playoff games, most recently with Detroit in April and May, where he averaged 12.5 points, 3.7 assists, and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 49 percent from the field and 47 percent from long distance.

More Sacramento Kings content from Sactown Sports

We have officially entered the dog days of summer and the NBA offseason, but hey, at least the Sacramento Kings’ schedule is out!

Ah, yes, the Sacramento Kings.

Sacramento has been one of the–how do I put this delicately–most talked about teams in the league this offseason, as many around the game have posed similar questions:

“What direction are they heading?” “Build it up, or tear it down?” “Kuminga? Westbrook?”

The Kings are currently a team with talent, no question–but is it the right collection of talent?

De’Aaron Fox is gone. Mike Brown is now the head coach of the New York Knicks. Even rotation staples like Trey Lyles (free agent), Jonas Valanciunas (traded to Denver), and Jake LaRavia (signed with the Lakers) aren’t in the equation for 2025-26.

All-NBA center Domantas Sabonis is set to enter this season as Sacramento’s franchise anchor, with six-time All-Star wing DeMar DeRozan and his former Chicago Bulls teammate, star guard Zach LaVine, entering his final guaranteed year of his contract ($48.9 million player option for 2026-27).
