Louis Saha sets objectives for Man Utd after humiliating defeat vs Grimsby Town, 'we need to...'

Manchester United have a lot of work to do after a turbulent start to the 2025/26 season.

It was another night Ruben Amorim will want to forget after Manchester United suffered defeat against Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup second round.

The Red Devils reached a new low under Amorim by getting eliminated by fourth-tier Grimsby Town after a penalty shootout.

Grimsby won a marathon penalty shootout 12-11 at Blundell Park, with new signing Bryan Mbeumo missing the decisive penalty.

Despite trailing 2-0 at half-time, Mbeumo and Harry Maguire scored in the second half to force the game to penalties.

The game goes down as one of the most embarrassing results in United’s history. It means United are winless in their first three games of the season. That doesn’t bode well after finishing 15th in the Premier League last term.

Louis Saha demands more from Man Utd

United were second best in every department against Grimsby.

Two howlers from Andre Onana in the first half gave Amorim’s side a hill to climb.

The result will see pressure mount on Amorim, especially after picking up just one point from their first two league matches.

Former United striker Louis Saha was asked if Ineos would consider sacking Amorim.

Saha admitted that Sir Jim Ratcliffe would have the idea in his head. He also set several objectives for the team to improve on speed of play, courage and quality.

“I think they have some consideration,” Saha told ITV during their broadcast of United’s defeat against Grimsby.

“They have to have a bit of a rough attitude. This ground is difficult to come to, but it’s what they’re here for; they have to perform.

“They have to find solutions. At the moment, we need to see better, speed of play, all this is missing. All the courage you expect from Man United, the quality, it’s not there. They have to regroup and find solutions.”

Man Utd goalkeeper struggles continue

After committing two howlers that led to goals, Onana was subjected to heavy criticism on Wednesday.

It was warranted and it’s sadly become a trend for the Cameroon international.

Onana has made nine mistakes leading to a goal since the start of last season.

United have until Monday’s transfer deadline to find a new goalkeeper.
