La Liga club set to launch loan bid for Man United defender before deadline day

Manchester United need to focus on transfer business despite their embarrassing Carabao Cup exit, with the window set to slam shut soon.

Man United are looking to offload several players and are preparing for a hectic end to the window.

According to journalist Joost Blaauwhof, La Liga club Elche are pulling out all the stops to bring Tyrell Malacia to Spain.

Malacia is part of the infamous ‘bomb squad’ with no future under head coach Ruben Amorim.

The left-back moved to Old Trafford from Feyenoord for a reported fee of £12.9 million.

His current deal at United runs until June 2026, with the club having the option to extend it by 12 months.

United are likely to find a solution for Malacia

The Red Devils made a massive effort to hijack Malacia’s transfer as Lyon had already reached a verbal agreement with the Eredivisie club.

The 26-year-old has featured only 47 times for United due to inconsistent form and lengthy injury layoffs.

He missed the entire 2023-24 campaign due to a knee injury.

He underwent multiple surgeries, which extended his time on the sidelines for 17 months.

Malacia played eight times under Amorim but failed to impress the Portuguese head coach.

He was sent out on loan to PSV Eindhoven in early February but was unable to hit the ground running, making only 12 appearances.

PSV decided against signing the left-back permanently, leaving United unprepared to find suitors for him.

There are big question marks over the future of Amorim after the humiliation at Blundell Park on Wednesday evening.

Even if Amorim leaves his managerial position, Malacia is still expected to head for the exit.

Patrick Dorgu is the clear first-choice for the left wing-back spot, with Diego Leon providing cover for him.
