Jamie Carragher could not help winding Gary Neville up about his relationship with Leeds United supporters yet again.

Leeds and Manchester United have a storied rivalry, with the hostilities between the Elland Road and Old Trafford outfits dating back to the historic tensions between Lancashire and Yorkshire.

The rivalry has subsided in recent years, with Leeds spending the majority of their time outside of the Premier League.

However, it is set to be reignited this season, after Daniel Farke took the Whites back to the promised land.

That isn’t until January, though, with Newcastle next up at Elland Road for Leeds on Saturday.

The clash with Newcastle is pivotal for the Peacocks, and Leeds have been backed to secure a draw by Jeff Stelling.

Carragher and Neville also believe that the Whites will gain a point in a 1-1 draw, but the ex-Liverpool man could not help himself before they made the prediction.

Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast on 28 August, he said: “Gary doesn’t like Leeds fans, does he?”

Neville responded, saying: “No, they don’t like me; there is a rich rivalry historically between United and Leeds.”

Leeds need a positive result against Newcastle

The LS11 outfit have seen their momentum from the opening weekend win over Everton fade in their last two matches.

The hosts were brilliant and fully deserved all three points as they beat David Moyes’ side through a controversial Lukas Nmecha penalty.

The 5-0 loss against Arsenal that followed could be damaging in terms of both goal difference and squad morale, but the Carabao Cup exit to Sheffield Wednesday could be even worse.

The Whites’ second string were defeated on penalties by the struggling Championship outfit, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin enduring a miserable debut as his side were eliminated from the competition.

Leeds have scored two goals in three matches

They have conceded six in those games

They currently sit 12th in the league with three points

They need to get a draw at the very least against Eddie Howe’s side to rebuild their momentum and push on in the survival battle.

Farke is already facing sack talk, despite Paraag Marathe’s stance seemingly not changing, and he needs positive results, sooner rather than later.

If they don’t come, then the pressure on the German will only increase, and he may find it difficult to flip the narrative.
