Football pundits have weighed in ahead of Sunday’s top-of-the-table Premier League showdown between Liverpool and Arsenal at Anfield.

Mikel Arteta’s side currently lead the table after opening the season with back-to-back victories over Manchester United and newly promoted Leeds, keeping clean sheets in both fixtures. Defending champions Liverpool also maintain a perfect record under new head coach Arne Slot, but defensive lapses in wins over Bournemouth and Newcastle, conceding twice in each, have raised questions early in the campaign.

The highly anticipated clash is being billed as an early marker in the title race, with both managers eager to gain the upper hand.

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has backed Arsenal to emerge victorious, tipping the Gunners’ set-piece strength as the decisive factor.

“I fancy Arsenal to win,” Neville said onThe Overlap. “Arsenal will score two from set-pieces. It’ll be land of the giants with Arsenal on Sunday. With Merino, Rice, Zubimendi, Eze or Trossard, plus the big back four, they’ll score from set-pieces. I think Arsenal will score two, Liverpool will score one – and it’ll be 2-1 to Arsenal.”

Neville has also maintained his belief, for a third consecutive season, that Arsenal will end their long wait for a Premier League title.

His prediction was echoed by former Arsenal striker Ian Wright, who also backed the Gunners to edge the contest.

“I think Liverpool will score one, but I’m going 2-1 to Arsenal,” Wright said. “If that Liverpool defence did what they did against Bournemouth, we can win the game.”

Jamie Carragher, however, disagreed with his fellow pundits, siding with his former club and forecasting a 2-1 Liverpool win.

With pundits divided and both teams yet to drop points this season, Sunday’s encounter promises to be one of the defining fixtures of the early campaign.
