Newcastle are closing in on a shock move for Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade, Daily Mail Sport can exclusively reveal.
Sources in Germany say talks have accelerated today and the financials of a deal between the clubs are agreed.
The fee is thought to be in the region of £75million and Woltemade is due on Tyneside for a medical.
If the move goes through, it would bring to a close Newcastle’s summer-long pursuit for a striker - and could see movement on Alexander Isak to Liverpool.
Woltemade would also represent a huge coup for the Magpies, given his starring role for Germany Under-21s at this summer’s European Championship.
The 23-year-old, who also has two senior caps, scored 17 times for Stuttgart last season and is seen as one of Europe’s most exciting young forwards.

Isak and his camp will be hoping that the signing of such a striker is the breakthrough needed to facilitate his sale to Liverpool.
Newcastle are still hoping to complete a deal for Brentford’s Yoanee Wissa and have not ruled out a third offer for Wolves striker Jorgen Strand-Larsen.
If they sign two strikers in the coming days, Isak’s British record move to Liverpool is very likely to go through.
