Slovenian press react to Benjamin Sesko performance in first start, and ask brutal question about Man Utd transfer

Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko has been eased into action at the club, and made his first start in the Carabao Cup.

After coming off the bench in the first two Premier League games of the season, Benjamin Sesko was rotated into the starting line-up for the Carabao Cup.

It was a game to forget for the former RB Leipzig striker, who did not score or make a key impact in front of goal in the 2-2 draw.

Sesko did score his penalty in the shootout defeat, but there were major questions asked over the fact he took his spot-kick 10th in the queue, with only Andre Onana taking after him.

Just like Ruben Amorim’s humiliation made major headlines in his native Portugal, striker Benjamin Sesko‘s night was a big talking point in Slovenia.

National outlet Football Mania write: “Benjamin Sesko needs time, but he doesn’t have it anymore since yesterday! The countdown of minutes played without a goal has begun.”

24.ur are already asking the worrying question, “Sesko and Manchester United: did the Slovenian make the wrong decision?”

They conclude that while it is too early to say Sesko has made an errant choice in joining Manchester United, he would have had an easier ride at Newcastle, a club who have also gained just one point from their opening two Premier League matches.

“The pressure from fans and the football public is much lower, so he would also have much more time to adapt to the new environment,” they wrote.

Newspaper Ekipa described Sesko’s late penalty in the shootout as ‘bizarre’, and described his first start for the club as a ‘cold shower’.

Benjamin Sesko will be better for his experience

Now the first start is out of the way, Benjamin Sesko has to move on and put it behind him, there is no point in dwelling on the game.

Sesko should start against Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday, with United desperate for a win.

The forward did not have a full pre-season with RB Leipzig or Manchester United, and the 90 minutes against Grimsby will be paid forward later on.

It was always going to take time for Sesko to build chemistry with his teammates, especially fellow new boys Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

Sesko made clear his move to Manchester United was his ‘dream transfer’, and could have earned more from a transfer to Newcastle.

He will be better off for his experience this past week, even if he feels quite low now in the wake of United’s cup exit.
