Chelsea fans buzzing as Champions League draw sets up reunion with a club legend

Chelsea are back in the Champions League after a two-year absence and found out who they will be playing against in the league phase on Thursday.

Some exciting games await the Stamford Bridge faithful, with Chelsea taking on the likes of Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

One match will also see Chelsea supporters welcome back a club legend.

For now, though, Enzo Maresca‘s side will be concentrating on the Premier League, taking on west London rivals Fulham next. Cole Palmer is currently a doubt for Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off but is yet to be officially ruled out of the match.

Chelsea fans excited about David Luiz reunion

As well as Bayern and Barcelona, Chelsea will also face Cypriot side Pafos, who signed David Luiz earlier this month.

After the Blues were drawn against Pafos, Chelsea fans were quick to take to social media to react to the news that Chelsea legend Luiz will be coming home.

One Chelsea supporter said: “Reunions for Chelsea everywhere, David Luiz, Antonio Conte. Beautiful!”

Another Chelsea fan posted: “Time to welcome David Luiz back to Stamford Bridge with Pafos.”

One other Chelsea supporter said: “Conte (Napoli) and David Luiz (Pafos) are coming home.”

Another fan really wants to go to the Chelsea and Pafos match because of Luiz. “David Luiz back at Stamford Bridge! I’ve gotta go to that game.”

Luiz was, of course, part of the Chelsea team that won the Champions League in 2012 against their upcoming opponents Bayern.

The rest of Chelsea’s opponents for the Champions League league phase are Benfica, Atalanta, Ajax and Qarabag.

The Blues will be looking to win the competition for the first time since 2021 when they were crowned champions after beating Manchester City 1-0 in the final.

The likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid will be favourites ahead of Chelsea, but Maresca’s men have already shown that they are capable of proving their doubters wrong after beating the former in the Club World Cup final last month.

The Blues have a quality team, possessing players such as Palmer and Joao Pedro. Both men scored in the Club World Cup final against PSG, while Pedro was recently lauded by Alan Shearer and named in his Premier League Team of the Week after an excellent performance versus West Ham United last Friday.
