Ruben Amorim has a 20-year dream at Man United but it now hinges on critical 20 days

Ruben Amorim has a long-term project at Manchester United but his dream is already beginning to crumble.

When Ineos appointed Ruben Amorim as head coach back in November, it was with a long-term picture in mind.

Amorim wants to win the Premier League as United boss, but currently, he has more games played in the competition than points earned.

The penalty shootout defeat to Grimsby Town was Amorim’s lowest point as United boss, and now there are questions being asked about his future at Old Trafford.

With the international break on the horizon, Amorim is entering a critical period for his future.

Ruben Amorim’s 20-year Man United dream at risk

Over the summer, Amorim said he wants to be United head coach for the next 20 years, but currently, his focus will be on the next 20 days.

Ineos are planning to win the Premier League by 2028, and Amorim was meant to be the coach who achieved that target, but now doubt is creeping in.

“I want to stay 20 (years),” Amorim said during the Premier League Summer Series. “That is my goal, and I truly believe in that. Something will happen – (they) always do. In some moments I will be lucky.”

Up next for United is a visit from Burnley on Saturday afternoon. Immense pressure is on Amorim to pick up the first win of the season.

After that, the Premier League is put on pause for the international break, and that would be the ideal time for Ineos to pull the trigger – if that is their plan.

If Amorim survives the next 20 days, he will lead United out in a Manchester derby against Manchester City in mid-September.

Ruben Amorim can survive and thrive at Man United

United fans have grown sick and tired of the managerial merry-go-round in recent years, and most supporters would agree that the problems at the club are much deeper than who sits in the hot seat.

There have been undeniable signs of progress under Amorim in terms of the performance levels, but the results have not followed.

Even this season, two of the three games so far have seen the opposition goalkeeper named as Man of the Match, with United struggling to convert chances when on top.

United fans have shown support for Amorim in the past, and now more than ever he needs the supporters behind him.

Unlike other projects, Amorim’s aim has always been long-term success, and sacking him would put United back to square one.
