**Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has dropped a huge brand-new update on Liverpool’s pursuit of Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.**
The Swede has been the Reds’ dream attacking target all summer long, but the Magpies have been stubborn in their efforts to keep hold of him.
There has now been a significant boost for Liverpool in their quest to sign Isak before the end of the window, however, due to Newcastle closing in on the signing of VfB Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade.
Writing on [_X_](https://x.com/SkySports_Keith/status/1961121745953325165), Downie claimed that a move is close, with the Magpies also targeting Brentford’s Yoane Wissa, which will pave the way for Isak to “get his wish” if Liverpool bid for him a second time:
_” Newcastle still want to sign Yoane Wissa from Brentford – to play alongside Nick Woltemade. NUFC won’t sign Woltemade & Jorgen Strand Larsen – too similar. Liverpool are now expected to come in with a Premier League record second offer for Alexander Isak, and the striker will get his wish. The dominoes are falling.”_
**The perfect end to a great summer for Liverpool?**
----------------------------------------------------
This is enormous news for both Liverpool and Isak, as the Reds look to secure the services of one of the best strikers in the world – one who [Alan Shearer](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/articles/c4n1kvkz20lo) has lauded, saying:
_“His runs are superb. If you just watch how clever he is when he doesn’t get the first pass played in, he then goes behind a defender to come back in and bend his run to make sure that he is onside, then he can make a really clever finish._
_“He can also come deep and drop deep, so he is asking different questions of the defenders by saying: ‘Are you going to come with me or are you going to drop off?’ If you drop off, he has got the ability to hurt you there.”_
Hopefully, Liverpool’s second offer is now imminent, with Newcastle then accepting it, in what could be a game-changing piece of business for the Premier League champions.
If the Reds can also sign Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi before the end of Monday, it would complete arguably the best summer of transfers in the club’s history.
