Everton have been linked with a move for a key West Ham transfer target, and David Moyes still has chance to make a move
Everton have embarked on a new era at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. They have won back-to-back games at their sparkling home. The Toffees beat Brighton and Hove Albion in their last Premier League outing last weekend before they overcame League One side Mansfield Town in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.
It has been a pretty busy summer on the recruitment front for the Merseyside outfit so far. They have brought in the likes of Jack Grealish and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to bolster their ranks, among others. David Moyes still has time to make more signings before the deadline on Monday 1st September.
Everton should target Hayden Hackney at Middlesbrough
According to reporter Jacob Steinburg on X, West Ham are keen on Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney. Football Insider claimed earlier in the window that he was a player of interest to Everton. Moyes’ men should rekindle their pursuit and try and lure him to the North West ahead of the Hammers.
Hackney, 23, would be a shrewd acquisition by the Toffees if they managed to get him. Boro are expected to face a battle to keep hold of him amid attention from elsewhere. It remains to be seen whether they will be able to retain his services.
The player is still young and has potential to get better in the future. He would give the Toffees more competition and depth in the middle of the park and would be a useful long-term option. In addition, he has proved himself in the Championship now and needs to test himself at the top level as soon as possible.
The ex-England youth international has been on the books at the Riverside Stadium for his whole career to date. He has risen up through the academy ranks of his current club and was a regular for them at various different youth levels. He was loaned out to Scunthorpe United back in 2021 to get some experience under his belt and boost his development.
Hackney has since become a key player for Boro over recent years and is one of their most valuable assets. He has made 114 appearances in all competitions and has scored 10 goals, five of which came in the last campaign. However, it is yet to be known whether he will be sticking around.
Everton embark on new era
This is an exciting time to be associated with Everton. There is a feel good factor around the club and they have shown by signing Grealish that they are an attractive team to play for again. They need to ensure that they get their next signings spot on as well as they look to add the finishing touches to their squad.
Hackney fits the bill for the Toffees and it would be an added boost to get one over one of their rivals in West Ham. The Hammers have endured a tough start to this term and pressure is already starting to mount on Graham Potter. The ex-Brighton and Chelsea man has struggled for results since his switch to the London Stadium and will be feeling the heat.
Everton lost in their first outing away at Leeds United but bounced back with their victory over the Seagulls. They needed help from goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in that one after he saved Danny Welbeck’s second-half penalty. Next up for Moyes’ men is an away trip to Molineux as they look to make it two wins on the spin in the league. Their upcoming opponents have lost their first two fixtures against Manchester City and AFC Bournemouth so will also be hoping to get a positive result.
