Chelsea continue to push for a deal for Alejandro Garnacho before the transfer window closes.
Time is running out for Manchester United to finalise their summer business, with the deadline now firmly in sight.
The Red Devils were dealt a huge wake-up call this week when they were sent crashing out of the Carabao Cup at the hands of League Two side Grimsby Town. The defeat raised a number of concerns for Ruben Amorim and co, who are trying desperately to avoid a repeat of last season’s dismal Premier League run.
United finished 15th in the table last campaign with just 42 points on the board - their lowest ever in the Premier League. The 2024/25 season left the board willing to listen to offers for every player on the roster but United are yet to make any cash sales so far this window.
However, they could finally be closing in on a significant player departure this week as Alejandro Garnacho’s future looks set to be at Stamford Bridge.
Man United close to selling Alejandro Garnacho
According to The Telegraph, United and Chelsea are now ‘close to agreeing terms’ over the transfer of Garnacho, with a deal said to be worth in the region of £35-40 million.
The Argentinian no longer has a future at Old Trafford and is due to leave the club for good before the window closes, providing all goes to plan in these final stages of negotiations. United have reportedly based their asking price on the £50 million figure Arsenal paid to sign Noni Madueke from the Blues.
Garnacho will be hoping to jump straight into regular action with Chelsea, as he will no doubt be eyeing a place in the Argentina squad next year and his country look to defend their title at the 2027 World Cup. The report has also provided an interesting update on Chelsea’s pursuit of the winger.
Interesting update drops on Alejandro Garnacho transfer update
The Telegraph report highlights that there is a ‘realistic market’ out there for Garnacho, should things not go to plan with Chelsea.
“With only a few exceptions, Chelsea’s business is done with potential trading of the player further down the line should a transfer not work out,” the report claims.
Chelsea have splashed the cash on a raft of new recruits so far this summer, including four new forwards in the form of Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens and Estevao. The new recruits make up an already well-stacked attack, meaning Garnacho will be competing for a starting position once he arrives at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues aren’t shy when it comes to selling players who they no longer have plans for. Should Garnacho not fit the bill moving forward with Chelsea, his space will likely be made available for a new signing. This summer has been a very busy one for the Blues, who have made more than ten cash sales this window, with them planning to offload the likes of Nicolas Jackson and Raheem Sterling.
